3 Years Post Surgery

It's been nearly three years.  Time certainly flies.

Nothing has changed in the last year to year and a half.  The docs originally told me that it could take 2 years for things to reach equilibrium.  They were right.

Erectile Issues

I only used the injections for a few months.  They worked fine, but it wasn't long before nature took over and erectile functions were back to normal.  So, as far as I'm concerned, this is not an issue.

Pain

None.  Never really was an issue even shortly after surgery.

Continence

Still have urine leakage.  Nothing significant.  I wear a light pad mainly for peace of mind.  I had to quit using one brand because the deodorant they used smelled funny when there was any urine.  I'm using a thick pad now only because I could not find a thin pad.

The main issue with urine leakage is during sex.  I was expecting dry ejaculations, but, instead I get a gush of urine.  The amount depends on how full is my bladder.  Even if I have peed recently there will be some urine.  I find this rather disgusting.  I've talked to my doc and he says there is really not much that can be done - pee often and wear a condom.

Would I Make the Same Choice Again?

Yes.  Doing nothing was not a choice - my Gleason score was 7.  The choices for treatment were radiation (of various types) or removal.  With radiation I think I would always wonder if they got all of the cancer and would just be holding my breath waiting for something bad to show up in a future test.  As I stated in one of earlier posts, I feel that it was my prostate that had the cancer and now that it is gone, the cancer is gone.

I move on.
